Excuse the terrible pun, but the Fred Aldous Craft Shop is an undeniable “staple” of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Carrying a vast cornucopia of things to make and do across three floors, you are very likely to leave inspired to embark on a new art project.

This hipster heaven does come with a word of warning however: It isn’t cheap and you will end up spending more than you intended on things you didn’t know you needed.

One of my favourite findings was a DIY ukulele building kit!

A fun thing to do with the kids during a trip to Fred Aldous is to introduce them to the magic of the old fashioned analogue photo booth (£3 for a strip of 4 pictures).

Right by the door, it comes with the suggestion that you buy a cool black frame in which to display your characterful black and whites (£11.95). As you can see the result is great fun.
