Days Out: Antony Gormley’s Another Place at Crosby Beach, Liverpool

Antony Gormley's Another Place

For a free beach walk with a difference head to Crosby Beach near Liverpool, where Antony Gormley’s Another Place will keep your interest.

One hundred life-size metal statues of the artist stand watch over the sea.

The messaging behind it is quite deep and moving but that doesn’t stop visitors making their own fun, including my seven-year-old, who sniggered away at the nakedness of it all, and understandably so.

Others have taken to dressing Antony up in nice frocks, or putting silly hats on his head. We gave him a sand Mohican.

Follow the signs in Crosby for free parking at the end of the beach furthest from Liverpool and you can walk a round trip of around 3.5 miles in total to the Crosby Marina lake and back in a couple of hours, stopping to collect shells on the way.

Take a packed lunch and it shouldn’t cost anything apart from the price of fuel.
