Alton Towers will be hoping to win back the crowds after last year’s tragic rollercoaster crash with a new attraction built around a virtual reality trip into space.
Launching at the Staffordshire theme park in April, Galactica will create the sensation of flying into space through a combination of traditional rollercoaster thrills and cutting edge technology.
Riders wearing VR helmets will lie flat, with visuals synchronised to the thrilling twists, turns and loops of the rollercoaster to recreate the sensation of hurtling through space.
Galactica will be located in the theme park’s Forbidden Valley area.
Alton Towers owner Merlin Entertainment has closed a number of rides at its theme parks across the UK following a crash on The Smiler ride in summer 2015.
