The BFG is the latest classic children’s story to be given the Walt Disney treatment.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, it follows the adventures of a little girl called Sophie who is introduced to the wonders of Giant Country by the Big Friendly Giant.
While most of the giants in Giant Country are big and scary, the Big Friendly Giant prefers eating snozcumbers and frobscottle to humans. Their adventures lead them to plot the end of all the nasty giants once and for all.
The Disney version of Roald Dahl’s classic stars Rebecca Hall as Sophie and Mark Rylance as the Big Friendly Giant.
When will The BFG be shown in cinemas?

Manchester-based fans of Roald Dahl might be interested to know that the original animated version of the children’s classic was produced by Chorlton’s Cosgrove Hall Films in 1989.
It was directed by Brian Cosgrove and adapted for the screen from Roald Dahl’s book by John Hambly. Stars included David Jason of Only Fools And Horses fame.
The film was one of the biggest successes for Cosgrove Hall, which was founded by Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall. Other hits for the iconic Manchester animation house included Danger Mouse and Chorlton and the Wheelies, which was named after the location of the studio.
Cosgrove Hall went out of businesses after being acquired by ITV Granada but was recently revived with a new base in Didsbury, Manchester.
