The little town of St Austell in Cornwall was once a major a centre for the production of China clay. Millions of tonnes of the stuff were excavated, leaving bunker-like clay quarries and wigwam-shaped spoil hills that still dominate the skyline in parts of the town.
Years after work had stopped on China clay extraction, someone had the bright idea of filling one particularly large void with a facility housing some the best of the world’s best plants. The Eden Project was born.
Work on the futuristic biomes at the heart of the Eden Project began in 1999. Today It’s a mature visitor attraction with Disney-style atmosphere.
The Eden Project in Cornwall has a Journey Into Space theme for summer 2017. We were lucky enough to pay a visit and Katie took us on a video tour.
