Winter Wonderland at Event City, Manchester

Stuck for something to do with the kids over Christmas? Winter Wonderland could be just the break you need from turkey and stuffing sandwiches.

It’s essentially an enormous indoor fun fair with a few festive trimmings, with most of the major attractions free of charge once you’ve paid the price of admission.

A ticket buys four hours of fun for you to use as you please. Many of the rides are aimed at pre-teens but there are a few higher octane thrills to be had.

I ended up feeling as sick as a greedy dog after Christmas dinner on the gravity wheel, but we all had fun as a family.

A series of live action shows running on the main stage includes The Ice Princesses, a thinly veiled showcase of songs from the Disney film Frozen. Other shows include Rainbow and a light sabre training session led by Jedi Knights.

The circus is also worth a look, with some magnificent acrobatic skills on display and a man who does bonkers things with a massive balloon.

One thing to note is that food and and drink and side stalls will cost you extra. There’s a reasonable selection of burgers, sausages, noodles, waffles and chips. And of course, you can also buy a Yorkshire Pudding wrap.

Winter Wonderland is at Event City near the Trafford Centre, Manchester, until January 1.
